Visions of the perfect community

Your kingdom come (Zechariah)

Zechariah 1:7-6:8

We all long for the perfect community - and it is a right longing to have. We judge our leaders on their ability to create one and invest effort in making our own. In Zechariah’s time, God gave a vision of the perfect community that we could never create. With surreal images, he lifts our eyes beyond what we can do, to what He will deliver. A perfect community, centred around God’s return and the departure of sin. It is a vision – though strange – of great comfort and hope.
