Tim Keller is the minister of a large church in New York City and a lot of the material in the book is from question and answer sessions that have been held in his church. The book is aimed at two groups:
1. People with doubts about Christianity. Keller points out that these doubts are based on alternative beliefs so the person needs to apply the same tests to their beliefs as they would apply to Christianity
2. Christians - who want to engage with friends and family who don’t know Jesus.
The first half is called “The Leap of Doubt” and addresses many questions you might have if you don’t know Jesus. Each chapter is a self-contained “book” with chapter heading such as:
- There can’t be just one religion
- How could a good God allow suffering?
- You can’t take the Bible literally
The second part of the book focuses on why to believe and is called “The Reasons for Faith”. Chapters in this section include:
- The clues of God
- The problem of sin
- Religion and the Gospel
This is a good book for anyone. It is easy to read and if one section or Chapter is too heavy or not of interest you can just move on. It is on the bookstall - hardcover $25 or soft cover $20. A good source for further information is the website www.thereasonforgod.com.
