I remember having a great conversation at Getaway 2 years ago. One of the members of our church had been very cautious in sharing her faith with the people at her workplace. It was the Friday of Getaway, and her colleagues were asking what she was doing on the weekend.
"Going to the coast," was her reply.
"Who are you going with?" they asked.
"Friends," she responded.
In God's providence, the colleagues kept questioning, and discovered that the friends she was spending the weekend with were friends from church, and the weekend away was church camp.
She didn't expect what happened next.
A colleague was actually pleasantly surprised to learn that she went to church.
So what was her colleague's next question?
She asked if she could come to church with her sometime!
God has a way of taking us out of our comfort zone, when he knows it's good not only for us, but also for others. Who would've thought that a conversation about weekend plans would've led to a self-invite to church?!
There's much to be encouraged by in this story, and several take aways for 'reaching those we know'.
But here's one for today - there are some people we know who want to come to church.
They'd like to be invited!
For whatever reason (and there are many), they'd love the opportunity to come along. They're just waiting to be asked.
So, commit your colleagues to the Lord and throw out an invite. Who knows - they might be sitting next to you at church this weekend!
