Reaching those we know: Cross-pollinate your social circles

9 August

Are your friendship circles like a boxing contest?

"In the red corner - friends from church."

"And in the blue corner - friends from hockey."

Are your friends divided into separate groups that rarely cross paths - you're either with your church friends, or your hockey friends, but never with both at the same time?

There are a couple of benefits to cross-pollinating you social circles:

  1. Your friends can see that you are not an anomaly - there are in fact lots of other 'normal' Christians out there!
  2. Others can help your friends come to know Jesus. You might get horribly nervous talking to your sceptical scientific friend about Jesus, but there are others in your church family who are quite at home speaking about Christianity and science, and how the two can happily coexist.

You might be able to think of more - feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Bringing your social circles together is a great way to reach those you know - so how do you do it?

There's lots of organised events that make this easy.

For example, Steve Garner is hosting a Rugby World Cup event at his place - an opportunity for you to bring your friends from hockey (for the sake of example!), and your church friends to bring their hockey friends, and everyone hangs out together. If you're interested, please contact Steve.

Or there's the Christian Social Scene - providing regular events where anyone is welcome.

You could organise a get-together of your own. Have Friday drinks (if that's your thing), or a BBQ, or coordinate a group to see the Swans play. But don't limit the invite to friends from just one group!

We'd love to hear from you!
