Reaching those we know: Be reminded of the urgency

Productivity experts love this matrix:

They know that we are easily overtaken by urgent tasks, at the expense of those tasks that are actually important. They recommend (as you can see from the matrix) that we invest our time in those tasks that are both urgent and important.

Are you following this advice? As a Christian, are you pursuing what is both urgent and important?

I find it very easy to concern myself with the day-to-day, and forget the big picture. But the big picture is this:

Jesus is coming back. Soon. It will be a great day for those who know him. It will be a terrible day for those who don’t. Jesus is the only name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

This truth shifts our priorities for today, and reminds us of what is truly urgent and important. Of course, ‘life must go on’.

We still need to go to work.
We still need to go grocery shopping.
We still need to pay the bills.

But we do these things with the knowledge that Jesus is returning. And it could be tomorrow!

The Bible makes it clear that no one knows when Jesus will return (Matthew 24:37-44). But does the knowledge of Jesus’ impending return inject an urgency into your daily living as you seek to share Jesus with those who don’t know Him?

I find it easy to forget what an urgent message this is. I need to be reminded.

This talk is a great reminder: “An Unadjusted Gospel in an Unreached World: Connecting Gospel Theology with Urgent Missiology”.

Don’t be distracted by the long title - it’s an excellent talk!

I’ve listened to it several times now, and it’s been a great gee-up for me, reminding me of how much our world needs the gospel, and what an urgent task we have. I pray it will have a similar impact on you as you listen to it.

Let’s pray together that God would give us an urgency for his mission.

We’d love to hear from you!

How do you keep the urgency of the mission at the front of your mind? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
