If Church by the Bridge seeks to truly live out our core value of being ‘Christ Centred’ - where we affirm Jesus as the one and only Lord and Saviour who is worthy of praise, glory and honour - then we must be a church committed to ‘mission’ (our fifth core value).
Where the centrality of Christ is lacking in our hearts and church, passion for missions will be lukewarm. For when we are truly convinced that God is worthy of all creation’s worship, adoration, and allegiance, we will be truly zealous for God to receive such honour due to him. Because Jesus is worthy of worship, we are devoted to presenting Jesus in word and deed, both locally and globally. It is our desire to see more worshippers of Him.
As one of my favourite Christian thinkers on missions writes:
“Mission is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exits because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever”
It will be our delight when we see, hear and know of more worshippers being gathered around the throne of Jesus the KING of KINGS. It will be our prayer to see people worshiping the lamb, bringing glory to the LORD of LORDS, whether they are people from our families, Kirribilli, Northern Territory, Vietnam, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Nepal, Tanzania and beyond.
