Core value 4: Church Family

11 March

“By his grace, God brings us together as a family of believers, indwelt by his Spirit, diverse yet united in Christ. God commands us to love one another deeply. We are committed to relationships marked by selfless love, integrity, openness, submission, accountability and genuine care & concern. We are committed to regularly meeting together and using the gifts God has given us to serve him and edify and encourage each other. (Eph 2:19-22, Eph 4:1-11, Heb 10:25).

This is our fourth Core Value: Church Family! Let me highlight 3 important areas flowing from this.

1) Unity. We are all united in our Lord Jesus Christ. God brings a diverse group of people together – with different gifts, personalities, and levels of Christian maturity. Of course we won’t always think the same on every matter. But we are deeply united, because of Jesus. We really are family – made one by the blood of Jesus!

2) Relationships. We are brothers and sisters in Jesus. So our church needs to reflect those kinds of familial relationships. This involves thinking of, and acting on the needs of others, respecting one another, showing genuine love and concern, encouraging one another and seeking out new relationships (our ‘friendship quota’ should never be full!)

3) Meeting together. We actually need to express our familial relationships by gathering together regularly. If you are part of this church family, we will miss you if you don’t attend regularly. The body will not function as well if one part is missing. We all need each other!

Why is church family important? Because it’s such a wonderful expression of the glorious gospel of God’s grace!

With love in Christ
