Earlier this week over Villawood detention centre, a sign read ‘we need help & freedom’. In some sense, it is a sign that could go over all our lives.  We all need help & freedom. We all need redemption.

Ruth 4 ties up the loose ends of the book & ultimately reveals a story of redemption. Giving us not one, but 3 endings, we first see the redemption of Ruth, then Naomi, before a conclusion that points to a new beginning. Reminding us that redemption is costly, flows only from love & brings joy, Ruth 4 points us toward the redemption we might all find in Christ.
